The upholstered furniture in your living room, dining room and living room is made to finally live. And with all this wear, it will surely get dirty. Vacuuming regularly with the upholstery tool is a must to remove loose dust and dirt from the surface of a fabric, but sometimes your upholstered furniture needs more.

We also check for any tissue damage that cleaners can cause, their ease of use and rinsing, the clarity of instructions, and the safety or warning notices that must appear on the product label.

Some, such as synthetic microfiber or cotton chenille, can be cleaned with most products. The silk damask, on the other hand, could be damaged when cleaning with a water-based method. So before you grab an old cleaner from your cabinet and start spraying, it’s essential to know what type of cleaning process is safest for the fabric covering your chair. Check the care label on your upholstered furniture before cleaning to find out exactly how to clean your sofa. A quick checklist:

  • W: Water-based cleaning solutions are safe to use
  • S: Only solvent-based cleaning solutions are safe to use
  • WS: Water and solvent based cleaning solutions are safe to use
  • X: Neither water-based nor solvent-based cleaning solutions are safe to use. Only a vacuum cleaner or professional cleaning is safe.
