Setting the depth of cut on my circular saw was at most uncomfortable before making this handy caliber. It is just a large block of wood with 1/4 ″ wide slots cut to precise and incremental depths. I made the slots on the table saw.
To set the depth of cut, I place the circular saw in the appropriate slot on the gauge, loosen the saw depth stop, drop the blade until it touches the bottom, then lock the depth stop again. The gauge also works upside down to set the height of a table saw blade.
