Courtney’s New Apartment Tour + Design Plans + Mood Boards
Hmy friends, it’s Courtney (Melissa’s daughter) here today! After living in my parents’ downstairs apartment for the past year or so, I have now all moved to my new little apartment in Bellingham, a lovely waterfront town in Washington!
Today, I wanted to give you the empty tour of my new place, as well as share three moodboards with my design plans! I have already settled in and made a lot of progress over the last month and a half of living here which I look forward to sharing on the blog. Tomorrow I’ll be back on the blog to share my cozy bedroom, so be sure to come back tomorrow to see this!
If you’ve been following my Instagram Stories, you’ve already seen some of my progress so far – so if you can’t wait;) you can check out my Instagram Story Highlights for some sneak peeks!
A little about the apartment before taking a look! This is a 500 square foot one bedroom apartment, which is actually about 100 square feet smaller than my previous “ open one bedroom ” apartment in Seattle. If you want to see my old place, you can take a tour here.
I had signed my lease for this apartment in June 2020, before the building was finished. Construction had many delays due to the state of the world, so instead of moving in mid-October, my move-in date turned out to be mid-January. But it was worth the wait! There is so much that I love about this apartment and this city and I am truly grateful to be here. Bellingham is only an hour and a half north of my parents’ house in Seattle, so I enjoyed being able to easily get with my family for a day, weekend, or multiple days! It was great to have a home base now in both cities.
Ok, now for the tour! First of all, the kitchen. I was very pleasantly surprised at the size of this kitchen for an apartment – especially at just 500 square feet. Love all the finishes they chose, it was a perfect blank slate!
I knew from the floor plans that there was an island (also unexpected for this small space!) But I didn’t know until my first visit that there was room below for the counter stools . It was a great advantage!
Another feature that I really like is the style of the shaker holder. That door to the left of the refrigerator would be amazing if it led to a pantry, but alas… it’s actually just a water heater – ha! At least it’s a pretty door and the kitchen has plenty of storage for my needs!
Beyond the island is the living room!
The living room is narrow but quite long (the back corner wall is just under 8.5 feet wide and the room is 14 feet long). I had several ideas for arranging this space and I just came up with an arrangement that I really like.
This pretty Target wardrobe will be heading to this back wall when it arrives this week (see my bedroom mood charts at the bottom of this article!).
The double doors next to the island are where my washer and dryer are next to each other, with a metal shelf above for storage.
Beyond the living room is my bedroom! This part was especially exciting for me as my previous apartment in Seattle was an open plan bedroom (basically a studio but with a cut-out wall that separated the bedroom from the living room). You can take a tour of my old room here,
This chamber is just under 9 and a half feet in width and 12 and a half feet in length. There is also a good sized closet here. It receives a lot of natural light thanks to two large windows.
Loved having a separate bedroom with a door (ha, those are the little things). I am delighted to show you tomorrow how comfortable this room has become!
Then back in the living room / kitchen you can see the front door.
To the right of my entrance is my bathroom. I really love the vanity and the tiling here!
Okay, this is the quick turn! 🙂 It’s been about a month and a half now since I moved in – I’ve settled in quite a bit so far and love it! Let’s take a look at my mood boards to get the vision …
