HI friends! First of all, I wanted to thank you again for all your kind messages lately. It means so much to us that you are excited about our family and this move. So many of you have been here for years or even since I started my blog, so I am extremely grateful for your kindness and support. If I could, I would invite all of you! So today, take this as your (virtual) invitation to come in! 🙂
I mentioned in my last post that this house came furnished! So even though we haven’t moved our own stuff yet, we already have some furniture here, so we feel right at home right away. Some coins will stay here, others will go to our children, others will be donated. And of course, once we officially move out, we’ll be using many of the rooms we love from our other home.
Even though we have some comfortable furniture to use at the moment, one of the first things I wanted to do when we arrived was to make this place look even more like our home. I was especially HAPPY TO BEGIN THE FALL NEST! All of the props we own are packed in or in the other house, so I did a bit of online shopping at Walmart to find a few new affordable things to start setting up our new home and making it ours.
I’m so glad we did – picking and organizing those special fall touches for the new entryway and porch made me feel right at home.
I’ll share decor sources throughout and a full list at the end.!
One of my favorite simple ways to bring the feel of fall to an entryway is to add a festive seasonal wreath! I love all the texture and variety of it with the pumpkins, colorful leaves, berries, pine cones, wheat, feathers and burlap. A neighbor once stopped to say how cute this wreath is! It was also a lot. Click here for the crown.
We put this jute rug in the hallway and immediately felt the added warmth and coziness.
I’m missing my porch lantern and dutch doors right now, sigh, but I am SO delighted to be here with my new porch and lovely entryway! This porch is going to be SO MUCH FUN to decorate every season. I’m already thinking about Christmas here! Ahhh! It’s nice to have room for a bench on this porch, it’s a great anchor piece to decorate. Ours was already there, but here is a similar bench.
The easiest way to start decorating your front door for a new season is to put on a new doormat! You can layer rugs if you want, or just keep it simple with one. I think with all the seasonal decorators posting photos of their exaggerated porch ideas, we can start to think that the only way to decorate for fall is to have a million pumpkins along the porch and lots of it. accessory layers. Sometimes I just think simplicity is the best. You can always add more, but simplicity is often enough.
This is the doormat we chose – I like that it doesn’t fall out too distinctly so I can use it for many seasons.
I had a great spot for this woven textured pillow inside, but I loved it on the bench too! With all the hard surfaces of a porch, I feel like the pillow softens it.
I found the pillow in the Wow & Now! section – which has great, affordable finds that are only available for limited times. Their assortment changes often, so I always look at it to see what’s new!
It was fun trying out this black lantern in different places on the porch. I think I’ll be ordering a few more, they’re cute all over and add such a lovely glow around the porch at night. You can even use battery operated outdoor candles like these and they will light up automatically!

This rattan basket is super cute and looks adorable with this sweetheart patterned tassel blanket inside. I set everything up on the porch and a little while later my husband was wrapped in the living room blanket – ha hahah! Its good. That’s why we brought it, to grab and be comfortable!
Jack and Lily took full advantage of the new home and all of their new views and points of view. 🙂
But Jack’s favorite habitat is really to stay cozy indoors. He’s a homebody like me. He appreciates the texture of this jute rug.
I fell in love with this white and beige ceramic lamp for the entrance table. It’s so pretty, great quality and the perfect compact size for a small space! There was a nice lamp on this table when we moved in, but we needed it in another room, so we chose this one to replace it. A lamp in the hall really adds warmth to the hall in the evening. It is still one of my star pieces.
I think it’s so cool that we move into this house in the fall. Even though a lot of people especially love this area in the summer due to the walk and ferry, nearby beaches and parks, I am very happy to be here in the fall. Cozy nights snuggled up by the fire? This is what makes me feel at home.
Thanks for coming to my new home, friends! More soon! You can find the links to the items I used from Walmart Home below.
