good housekeeping organization chronicles

Keeping an organized home just makes life easier. When everything is in its place, you can get through your day with ease. Who wouldn’t want that? That’s why we take you to some of the most organized and stylish spaces designed by some of our favorite influencers and taste makers. Prepare to be inspired by the Chronicles of the organization.

The kitchen is the heart of the house, and when you are a mother of five, it is even more true. Take the case of Atlanta-based interior designer Erika Ward, who admits it was imperative that her recent kitchen remodel was conducive to her active lifestyle, especially now that she and her husband are working more from home. .

Ward needed a comfortable yet stylish cooking space that would make it easier to prepare meals, but also encourage his kids to help with the cleanup afterward (every parent’s dream). “My main concerns were how to control clutter so the kids can help out, how to make surfaces easy to clean, and how to make them look pretty,” says Ward of his practical take on design.

Ward made his wish come true, thanks to a timeless design with brilliant storage solutions. Here’s how she created her well-organized kitchen:

Maximize cabinet space

Rather than replacing the kitchen cabinets, Ward went the sustainable route and chose to salvage them. She brought in a professional to give them a fresh new look with a hard-coated finish that completed the overall design scheme, which Ward says “takes inspiration from the Caribbean” with its watery blue backsplash. Once the aesthetic part of the work was dealt with, sliding drawer systems for storing large pots and pans were installed in the lower kitchen cabinets. Hiding them in drawers was also a simple way to free up visual space in her kitchen.

Use storage under the sink

Under Ward’s sink is a drip tray to protect the cabinets from leaks and spills, as well as a pull-out drawer for trash and recycling. A waste system of this nature is particularly useful for children who are beginning to learn the value of autonomy and responsibility. “As you encourage your kids to take on more responsibilities around the house and help with household chores, having this system of organization helps them know where things are going,” Ward says.

There are more than enough cabinets in Ward’s kitchen, but there are a number of frequently used items that make sense to keep on hand. The perfect solution? A pair of open shelves on either side of the hood for a box of lemons, a few of his favorite cookbooks, and a collection of dishes. But this stylish shelving solution does not only serve a functional purpose – the introduction of this form of symmetry into the design scheme is also visually appealing.

No matter what your design aesthetic, mounting your spice rack can suit your kitchen setup. Ward loves nothing more than experimenting with recipes and trying out different spices, so she made the decision to mount her assortment right on a cabinet door. “When you’re not taking advantage of that interior door space, especially if you’re running out of storage, it’s a missed opportunity,” she says.

Having a well-organized kitchen can not only help you make the most of your space, but it’s also a great way to include the whole family in its upkeep and find more fun cooking, even if you consider yourself. like an amateur chef.
