Tool: Nx60 Buy Now and DX60 Buy Now

Producer: Lee Valley

MSRP: $ 209 +

These Lee Valley low angle airplane blocks are beautiful weddings of fine art and sound engineering. Underneath every sleek, streamlined exterior lies a very serious tool that should satisfy even the most demanding carpenter.

The NX60 (above) and DX60 (below) are part of Lee Valley’s offerings on premium aircraft. Both are essentially the same: they have a 12 ° bed angle, an adjustable spout, a Norris-style mechanism that combines depth of cut and side adjustments, and extremely durable A2, O1 or PM-V11 blades with pre-lapped backs. All adjustment hardware is stainless steel.

The difference between the two models is in their bodies. The NX60 is made of a corrosion resistant material, nickel resistant ductile iron, while the DX60 is made of normal ductile iron and has a die-cast lever cap. The extra mass is always good on a small plane, and both weigh 1-3 / 4 pounds. And, boy, do they feel good in your hands. Whenever you use one of these babies, you’re going for a real spin.
