Hexocaster Luthier-Inspired Birdhouses are Perfect for Collectors

Birdhouses come in a variety of sizes, shapes and styles; however, finding the perfect one is definitely a tedious task. If you have an obsession with rare or hard-to-find birdhouses, Hexocaster may have some great options for you. These uniquely shaped mid-century modern birdhouses are inspired by the iconic Googie signs of the early 1960s.

Hexocaster birdhouses are elongated hexagrams that were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s. This shape is the main inspiration behind these birdhouses. Birdhouses are built in the same way that luthiers create musical instruments using wood with the elegant addition of chrome details.

There are three types of birdhouses: the Solid Body esocasters with wooden and stainless steel structures for outdoor use, while the Semi Solid Body and Sparkletone esocasters are for indoor use. The indoor birdhouses are also made of exotic wood and are carefully finished to become a work of art.

The wooden birdhouses inspired by the luthier Hexocaster feature cleaning holes on the bottom and air holes on the back. They can be mounted on poles or walls and can be purchased through Etsy starting at $ 350.

We got in touch with Kelli from Hexocaster and here’s what she told us about her creation:

1) You use exotic wood; Are your birdhouses sustainable?

A.) Yes, the exotic woods used come from Mom & Pop mills around the world. They come from trees that are harvested for age or health reasons which is why they have such unique swirls and patterns.

2) How do you keep the luthier’s inspiration intact in your projects?

A.) My dad has been a musician for most of my life and his love of guitars lends itself to some amazing sculptures. (his love of classic cars and hot rods shows up in the stunning Sparkletone Collection)

3) Weight and measurements?

A.) Esocasters are 8 inches wide. 5 “deep and 12” tall.

4) The price of your birdhouses is on the higher side. Who are your potential buyers?

A.) While the exotic Hexocasters indoor art sculptures are priced for collectors, there is a beautiful outdoor option built for enjoying the sun and priced at $ 350.

5) The inspiration behind these birdhouses?

A.) Hexocaster comes from the elongated hexograms that are extremely popular in the mid-century Googie road signs of the 1950s and 1960s, namely the Azar coffee shop sign.
