Eevery year i like to take some time to think about some goals for my house. I know we all probably associate the New Year with setting personal goals or resolutions, but we can come up with some home goals too!
Where should you start?
I find it best to start by thinking about the previous year, so you start from a place of gratitude and clarity on what you already have. 2020 has been quite a year, but I hope there have been some great lessons, silver linings, and memorable moments for your family and your home.
Then, think about what will matter most to your family in the year ahead. Of course, you can’t know everything that lies ahead (who would have thought in early 2020 that we would have a year like this?) But given what you know, how do you think your home will best serve your? needs in the coming months?
Maybe you plan to start a family, or maybe children are leaving the nest. Maybe you are working from home now and need to open an office. Maybe the stress of this world has been on you (like me!) And you want to declutter and simplify to bring more peace to your home as well as life.
Are there any improvements you could or should make in the New Year to protect your investment in your home and / or the well-being of your family?
How do you want your home to feel? It is my personal belief that what we feel at home is so much more important than what it looks like. Is it comfortable? Comforting? Happy? Choose words to describe the feeling (s) you want about yourself. Or write a sentence that describes how you want your home to feel!
Then think about the specific projects you plan to take on, the memories you want to create, and the spaces you want to declutter.
Every year I post a simple Home Goals Worksheet / Template here on The Inspired Room to get us thinking and planning. It’s also a very useful tool to save so you can check your progress later, as a reminder of your goals throughout the year!
