Introducing My New Book: A Lovely Life

TThroughout 2019 and 2020, during some pretty rough seasons, I wrote and photographed a new book, A Lovely Life. It occurred to me that every time I write a book it is during a difficult season or the next. Guess that makes sense, life isn’t always as perfect as we’d like it to be. Some days are good, and others not really. As I finished this book in 2020, I was repeatedly tempted to change the title to A Not-So-Lovely Life. Ha! But it was precisely for this reason that I knew that A Lovely Life was a book I had to write not only for myself, but also to inspire others.

I have always dreamed of creating and experiencing beauty in life and at home. Yet I have found that when my perspective is wrong, I will always fall short of my own expectations of what I think life should be like. The internet does not help with the continuous loop of highlight reels, with influencers striving for perfection while trying to keep up with the excruciating, high life lived at an often frantic pace that will exhaust even the top performers. I can burn myself out and feel defeated just by scrolling through the inspiration!

I have the passion to create a house, not to be a showcase, but to be a sanctuary in all seasons. Creating this type of atmosphere at home involves cultivating a deep appreciation for the most ordinary days. Rather than always striving for more than I have or can handle, I feel the most peace when I am just here in the here and now, savoring the routines of the day and finding beauty in the rhythm of the seasons.

If you ever feel like you don’t have or are not doing “enough”, I wrote this book to remind, inspire and encourage myself and my house mates that a beautiful life is not inaccessible! Every day can be better.

Do you recognize the space that was chosen for the cover photo? For me, and I hope for you too, this little spot on the side of our house is more than just a lovely scene for a book cover. It was a sacred and meaningful place. This is where life slowed down so that beauty could be savored. Every house I have lived in has taught me something. The years of it have certainly given us many new opportunities to look beyond life’s challenges, overcome our difficulties or rise above circumstances to create pieces of beauty through a rhythm of gratitude. every season.

I’ve filled my new book, A Lovely Life, with encouragement, simple ideas, and photos that I hope will inspire you to put on your own “rose-colored glasses” and embrace your own beautiful life. This kind of life does not mean that the house will be perfect, perfect or guarantee that there will be no worries to fill our days, some seasons are complicated and difficult!

In A Lovely Life, I share how to embrace the rhythms of each season and romanticize the most ordinary experiences and rituals of our day reminds us to be more intentional, present, and grateful for the moments we have.

It’s seeing the little gifts in front of us that make life beautiful.
