HHello ! It’s Kylee here to show you some more of our new home! Just a few weeks ago, we moved into our new Cape Cod style home (or just a cape depending on where you live!). To be honest, I still can’t believe it’s really ours! Although we have owned our townhouse for years, it still looks like my first real home. No shared walls, a yard to maintain, more rooms than I know what to do with… am I a real adult now? How to choose a lawn mower ? When to prune the bushes? So much to learn. 😉
I have shared some glimpses of our new home here, but today I wanted to give you a more complete and empty tour!
I’ve always loved the look of a long driveway that leads to a detached detached garage, so this is one of the features we loved about the house!
You walk into the house directly from the living room, so a design challenge I’m working on right away is creating a welcoming entrance that * feels * like its own dedicated space.
Can’t wait for it to be cold enough to use the gas fireplace! We loved having one in our old home and can’t wait to have one again.
From the living room you can see the dining room and the kitchen. After years of dining around a kitchen island, it looks like we need a dining table now! The double arches make my heart beat faster and I love how this space is open, but still looks like individual rooms. While we’ve looked at homes of different styles in terms of openness, there is something about homes with more unique floor plans and many rooms that I feel are so comfortable and intimate.
I’m still a little shocked that we ended up with such a beautifully remodeled kitchen. We saw a lot of houses in our house search and even the renovated ones usually had a few features that I wouldn’t have chosen, but this house has so many things that I would have chosen on my own! The housing market was brutal and after months of home search and loss (I talked about more in this article) it looked like we were going to have to lower our expectations and start accepting that a remodel could be in our business. to come up.
But, we have been so lucky with this house! We noticed it when it was first listed, but it is immediately put on hold (of course!). Then a few weeks later we were visiting Portland and saw that the sale had failed and it was back on the market! So we went into an open house and fell in love and hoped that due to the circumstances we would have a chance. And we had a chance! We weren’t the only offer, but we managed to get ours accepted!
Overall, I love everything about the kitchen – the marble counters, the butcher block island, the colors of the paint, the light that comes in… I spend a lot of time cooking here and it makes me feel good. so much joy! I can change the light above the sink and possibly add some pendant lights above the island, but so far that’s perfect. Oh and in case you missed it, I once wrote a blog post on how I filled those glass front cabinets! You can read this article here (I also shared some of the kitchen sources in this article like the paint color of our cabinets).
The house has three bathrooms and each of them has been so well appointed! This could be my favorite in the house because of all the gorgeous tiles! This is the bathroom on the ground floor between two bedrooms. I’ll spare you the photos of the rooms, as they’re actually just two boxes. We’ll be using one for a home office and one as a guest bedroom! I’ll share them when they’re cute. 😉
Then downstairs we have a finished basement. The photo above shows the staircase downstairs and a bathroom to the left (even the basement bathroom has been done well!) And another bedroom to the right.
The basement bedroom comes with this Murphy Murphy bed and will be another great guest space for us! I imagine our upstairs guest bedroom will be for short term guests and it will be for someone staying longer or coming with kids or dogs (hi mum and dad and Jack and Lily! ).
Then there is this large open space with a fireplace and space for a TV. This space is not on our priority list, but we would eventually like some new floors and paint here. Maybe a large comfy sectional for movie night?
And on the other side of the open space is a bar / mini kitchen. We don’t know exactly how we’re going to use this space yet, so to be determined.
A whole laundry room! In my townhouse I just had a laundry room so it feels like a luxury. I think wallpaper may be just the right thing to bring some joy to this space.
Now for the final space, the master suite, which is basically the entire upstairs / converted attic.
We plan to install new hardwood floors soon. As anyone who is doing house projects right now knows, there are a lot of backlogs in supplies, but hopefully that will be done in the next few weeks!
I’m still debating paint colors, but we could actually transform this space with something darker to make it a little more moody and cozy.
The master bathroom is a dream! The herringbone floors, the double vanity… I’m obsessed. We’ve been considering a few minor updates to make it more our own, like new lights and gear, but we’re enjoying it as is for now.
Also, this shower. Can you even ?! There is a little nook behind the shower which is sort of a wasted space that I am considering putting on a dressing table to do my makeup on. And on the left, there is a HUGE walk-in closet. Like, almost more space we need a bit huge (not that I’m complaining!).
Thanks for participating in this tour! We’ve already settled in a bit and started decorating so I’m sure I’ll be back with some updates soon. If you follow me on my Instagram, I’ll share some of our progress in real time!
