IIt’s been a while since I’ve published an article on Life Lately, so I figured I would make up for it before this season got out of hand. Time flies, doesn’t it? We had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend, my parents were able to stay with us for the first time in over a year! We have been to visit them several times (they live in Portland) but with everything that has happened in 2020 they have not been able to come stay with us until now.
It’s been a bit of a crazy week, as we still have my daughter Kylee and Lance living here with their two puppies Bella and Leo while they look for accommodation (catch up HERE if you didn’t know!). But it was so wonderful doing fun but simple things together.
Here are some scenes from Mother’s Day weekend at home!
It is my mother! We (and my daughters Kylee and Courtney) were visiting our local garden store one afternoon and decided to stop in for an impromptu selfie by the wisteria. It smelled so good!
We do a LOT of cafes with so many people around the house! I bought myself these transparent mugs for Mother’s Day. We brew coffee every morning with this percolator, and sometimes a second saucepan with this pourer.
My azaleas and rhododendrons started blooming that week, so I bought a bunch inside! They were so bright and happy.
Do we still have our Christmas lights on? Yes. Yes. 🙂 My son finally took them off for us last week. Its good. We all sat outside most of the days my parents were here, the weather was so beautiful!
The dogs get along (for the most part) so well… in fact, they’re relaxed enough now that they can even take NAPS together!
Jack was a big help when my dad was working on our taxes.
They had a great time discussing spreadsheets or the latest tax laws… or something like that.
This library was in my father’s office years ago! I have had it for a long time, but recently repainted it. It’s always so fun refreshing used furniture! You can see the recent makeover of this room here. My parents offered me another piece of furniture this time that I will show you soon!
My husband bought me a beautiful painting for Mother’s Day (on the fireplace there). He found it at a local thrift store and was thrilled because this is Port Townsend, a local beach town we love to go to!
Dogs LOVE our new mat, and so do I. I’ll do a separate post after that, but THIS MAT is the one I have if you can’t wait for the post! 🙂
Did I ever tell you that this sofa makes a very comfortable guest bed? It is double in size. With my parents in our guest room, Courtney slept on the sofa for a few days and it was perfectly comfortable! Also, if you have dogs in the house (who can’t seem to be able to stay away from the furniture), here’s how we keep it from being a muddy mess. Between the covers, a double fitted sheet on the bench cushion and easy-to-wash blankets, you can keep it clean! The foil is easy to remove and change for a quick refresh as needed.

I recently received this new multipurpose saucepan! It comes in many colors – I chose blue. We love it. I’ll tell you about it later, but here’s the source!
Kylee and Courtney made a delicious barbecue dinner for us one evening while my parents were here. You can find the broccoli salad recipe HERE on Kylee’s new Food Instagram.
Find more of our recipes on the blog here.
We had a fun ice cream cone bar one night, lots of plant based ice cream and gluten free cones for everyone!
PS… since I’m gluten-free and Kylee is vegan, I’m often asked for a list of foods we get. I have collected some of the food items we order HERE, but note that not all of them are certified gluten-free. I’m not celiac, but try to avoid gluten as part of the healthy changes I’ve made over the years! Click here for my article, How I Dramatically Improved My Health and My Home.
Also with so many puppies and people and a small kitchen, we have temporarily installed a second Berkey water filter in our dining room for drinking water! It’s not very photogenic there, of course, but it was handy! This made the filling of dog bowls and water glasses much more efficient. We have one in our kitchen and a fridge filter so plenty of access to water!
Click here for more details on the water filter.
If you missed my article on my decorated spring lantern (and a story about imperfections!) You can catch it HERE.
We always keep Jack’s beanbag in our living room because he loves it so much. We could never trade him for a coffee table, he’d be too upset haha. Here is a similar Ottoman source!
Somehow a Mother’s Day miracle happened and we had the four dogs sit down and pose for a photo. Truly a miracle.
They even smiled! It was a memorable weekend for all of us.
I hope everything is okay!
