New Glass Lamp + Coastal Cottage Living Room

VSand you think we are approaching the first day of summer? It’s time for our summer home :). A few weeks ago, we got a nice new sea-colored lamp for the living room! It was a gift for me haha. It reminds me a bit of the DIY lamp I made years ago. Anyone remember my bottle lamp project? I was so proud of this lamp! 🙂 I still have it, but the part of the lamp has collapsed so it’s just a bottle now.

But I think this new lamp is very pretty, I am absolutely obsessed with color! I love the coastal feel of it.

Even if winter is definitely over, we still love our fireplace! Last fall, we installed our fireplace insert and it’s still one of our favorite improvements to date. This has made us feel so good throughout the winter and weeks of quarantine and continues to draw us to this space in cool weather. It is not very hot here often, so we will probably be able to use our fireplace most of the year (except probably in July and August, we will see what the weather will be like then!)

With summer decoration in mind, however, we traded a few simple things like our curtains in this room for something a little lighter but still comfortable (we’ve had them for years and haven’t have been able to find them online since, unfortunately).

This year has not been filled with the type of home projects I had planned for this year. I had hoped that we could add a little more character with simple joinery and embedding, possibly rehabilitating our floors, perhaps tackling the renovation of the bathrooms or some other possibilities. With all the uncertainty in the world over the past few months, it seems prudent to suspend certain projects for a number of reasons.

I had declared that it was my “year of living well” weeks before I had even heard of COVID19, so it was an unexpected but extraordinary year to practice this thing. Since we have stayed at home for the past twelve weeks and welcomed two of our three children home this year, life has definitely brought us many unexpected twists and turns. Still, there have been many opportunities to keep what we have and focus on what matters most.

Even though we decided to suspend some larger projects earlier this year, we still had fun making small improvements around our house. I love simple things anyway. I’m happy as a clam with these kind of little house improvements! I am a putter at heart, I have written dozens of articles over the years on the simple pleasures of the putter!

As I mentioned in other articles, we reorganized the spaces to make more space in our “more empty” nest, reorganized certain furniture, hung works of art on the walls (I have even more for you show soon), hung a new lantern candle by the front door, and of course hang out in the backyard enjoying our spring flowers.

We gradually installed my daughter Courtney at our lower level and we very slowly set up a more organized office space. We went in a different direction with the space we originally planned and had to go at a much slower pace due to so many other priorities, but that continues to materialize and we will soon have an update article day on the blog.

Have you made any adjustments to your home improvement plans this year? I hope you are well, my friend.
