Tthere is so much to think about when designing a comfortable room, but there is one element that I consider to be one of the more important. Can you guess what it is?
These are lamps! The right lighting is an essential part of the comfort of your home. Adding additional lights is one of the easiest ways to create warmth and a more welcoming ambience in your home.
I like to make sure that every room is well lit at night, with just the right amount of ambient lighting near each seating area. Dark, shaded corners will make any space cold and uncomfortable at night, so whenever possible add lamps to the perimeter of a room as well as work areas to brighten and warm every corner of the space.
Some places to put lamps:
- On the side tables
- Floor lamps by seats
- On a console table
- On a bedside table
- On the kitchen counter (click here for inspiration)
- In the lobby (click here for inspiration)
- On the bathroom counter
- On a desk
Another way to add ambiance to your home is by installing wall sconces! Wired or battery operated sconces are a perfect lighting solution if you are short on surfaces or space, or just want a cleaner look. Plus, they can add a lot of personality and character to a room!
