It might sound funny, but renting an apartment is more like applying for a job than you might think. Both require you to impress the person with the lease or the position you’re looking for, and what better way to impress someone than with a stellar resume? If you’re ready to apply for an apartment but don’t know how to stand out in the application process, a rental CV could be your answer. We’ll explain what it is and provide you with a hire resume template for you to use.

Why do I need a rental CV?

In competitive markets (like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago), finding the perfect apartment can take months. Renters often look for similar things – an updated kitchen, hardwood floors, and a built-in laundry room – which means apartments with these amenities are bought quickly.

A rental CV allows tenants to impress and educate a potential landlord before choosing their tenant. This gives tenants a head start on the competition by telling a landlord what makes them the perfect person to rent the apartment. Not all tenants submit rental resumes and those who have the advantage of appearing more invested and interested in an apartment from the start. Property owners and managers just want a good tenant when all is said and done, and someone who provides information and expresses their intention upfront through a rental resume might make the decision easier for them.

What happens on a hire CV?
