Simple Furniture Makeover + Pretty Shelf and Drawer Liners
My friends, it’s Courtney (one of Melissa’s daughters) here! I wanted to share a simple furniture makeover project I did last night as part of A Lovely January! (If you missed it, we’re running a Home Challenge this month to progress on a room in your home, find out more, and join us here.)
Last night I was home seeing the snow start to fall again and dreaming about spring (I’m READY for spring!). I decided that instead of snuggling up under a blanket and watching a show to relax, it would bring me the most joy to turn on a podcast, walk around my apartment, move things around, d ‘organize, make things prettier, etc. My mom calls it looping! One of my favorite hobbies too. 🙂
Then the next thing I knew was I was doing some kind of little DIY project! I don’t really think of myself as a DIY loving girl… but it was a simple update that made me very happy.
PS, don’t miss at the end of this post I have shared a roundup of a lot of lovely drawer / shelf coverings, many of which can also be used as peel and stick wallpaper!
This little piece of furniture was in my mom’s new house when she bought it and she didn’t need it, so she gave it to me. I love it in my little hallway! I had a half round table here before, but it gives me much better storage and is just plain cute.
The interior had some damage on the bottom shelf, but I had an idea to spruce it up!
I already had this lovely contact paper bought years ago (you can get it on Amazon HERE or I also found it here), so I decided to line the shelves with it to cover the damaged part and make it all prettier! (I’ve shared more drawer liner sources at the end of this article!).
Here is how it happened:
It probably took me 20-30 minutes and a tiny bit of patience with the sticky contact paper – so glad I did! It’s not perfect, but so much the better. It makes me happy every time I open it now! Simple joys! I love that you can see it through the glass at the top too.
This project ended up inspiring me to improve so many other little things around my apartment last night. I freed up some space in my laundry room and put things in my new closet (when you live in 500 square feet that added a little amount of storage is an absolute GAME CHANGE, ha!). You can visit my whole apartment in this article.
I also had the inspiration to line up another drawer with the contact paper and I just tidied things around, completed other simple and persistent tasks that I had put off… I was on a roll! Funny how seeing progress on something that took so little effort can motivate you to do so much more.
I loved our “Nice January” challenge as a motivation to make small improvements around my house. I recently redesigned my living room too and shared it on my Instagram Stories. It was so much fun to see your progress too! Keep sharing on your social networks with the hashtag #alovelyjanuary and in our Facebook group!
You can follow me on Instagram for more apartment updates, insight into planning my wedding, baking pies and more! I love sharing pieces of life on Instagram and it’s such a fun way to connect with all of you. I have a lot of highlights recorded if you are just catching up. Don’t hesitate to come and say hello, I love hearing from you! 🙂
