Slicelab Creates Concrete Table Using 3D Printing Technology

Slicelab, the American multidisciplinary design studio specializing in digital fabrication, recently unveiled a concrete table built using a 3D printed mold. Called Delicate Density Table, it was created in collaboration with Concrete Works and Hummingbird3D. This project tries to form concrete in a delicate and detailed way while being structurally rigid.

The Delicate Density Table is created using an intense concrete casting process. There are 23 pieces of PLA plastic molds that are bolted together to create a large moldable 5 foot investment to withstand 200 pounds of unreinforced concrete. All parts are assembled together to form a single PLA mold.

The final mold was designed to be filled upside down, with the ten legs serving as access points to the main cavity. This ensures that air bubbles in the concrete are limited to the underside of the table and that the top surface is free of stains.

Once the Delicate Density Table was released from the mold, it was finished with wet sanding with a diamond pad to achieve a mirror shine. The table sports a beautiful rounded shape and an intricate base that gives it an otherworldly look.
