The Light-Changing Magic of Rechargeable Bulbs for Sconces + Lamps!
Ever wanted wall lights, but don’t have electrical outlets or wiring for them? Do you hate the look of a lamp bead that runs across a counter or hangs on a cabinet or runs down the wall? Same! I have a smart solution to share with you today!
Lately we’ve done some simple renovations in my home office, located on the lower level of my house. I have a fun idea for you today that we are using in this space. Note that these images are just blueprints (so excuse the imperfections and the evening light), but I thought you might like to see this step of the process even though we haven’t finished :). Finished pieces are always fun, but there are many steps in between!
Our ground floor is 1,500 square feet, but I love having the basement because there are quieter, more designated spaces for writing, creating, and working with others. There is a bigger room where my daughters and I can spread out to work or just to meet or have zoom meetings! I decided to start a makeover in this space by comforting it with curtain panels, paint on the walls and staircase, and rearranging the furniture (again!) And maybe even by getting some new pieces to mix and match and complete the piece.
In addition, I am more and more organized!
The past few years have been a blur of so many book projects that I’m pretty excited for a season to come back to focusing on our home and our organization. We have a LOT of great plans in mind, so I’m excited to share them here.
So again, excuse me while I go blogging the old fashioned way here with my unstaged snapshots hahaha, but the old fashioned blogging is my favorite anyway. Is anyone missing on these days? I sure do! Anyway, I decided to paint a large wall in the larger marine hale room, the same color I liked in my old office! The navy is kinda moody, so I love how comfortable it gets at night. It’s amazing at night. But it’s also really HAPPY during the day! It’s a fun color to use in conjunction with white and other brighter colors that I like too. It is a great color for contrast.
I’ll be sharing more of the room, painting, and my other updates to this space soon, but I found this great idea that I wanted to share with you in case you are looking for the same solution as me!
I really needed more mood lighting in my office, but there comes a time when you have too many lights in a room. In addition, a table lamp takes up valuable space. Even if you have room for a light, the cord and plug situation can be a challenge or unsightly. The ceiling lights are great, but I’m not sure how people would appreciate being in rooms without mood lighting, especially in the evening and on winter days. This is a must for me!
Anyway, I was looking for wall lights for mood lighting as well as to add more character and finish the wall above our console. But I was trying to figure out how I could use them WITHOUT wiring them right now as it may be a temporary fix for us (more on why later).
I looked into the plug-in wall lights, which were an option, but none spoke to me. They needed to be slim and stay close to the wall so many seemed to protrude too far! Also, plug-in lights will have a cord running down the wall, which may not have bothered me, but I know it doesn’t work for everyone. I have also used these battery operated washer type under cabinet / closet lights, but they are often way too cold for me. I prefer warm lighting.
Well I stumbled across these hot rechargeable bulbs on my friend’s Instagram (Pedal Home Interiors) and knew these were exactly what I needed too! We were able to hang these sconces on the wall with screws, without wiring them (just tuck in the wiring so you can wire them later if you want, or cut the cord if you don’t intend to. use!). Put on the rechargeable bulbs and voila!
It is the magic of rechargeable bulbs that changes the light. They are definitely a practical option if you don’t have an outlet nearby!
The bulbs are so awesome in the wall lights, they give the space an EXTRA COZY feel! I bought another set of these same lights in black for the upstairs in an area where we don’t have any wiring or plug-ins options. I’ll show them to you once we hook them up
The good news is that the bulbs are rechargeable, so you don’t have to keep using batteries. The downside is that you have to recharge the bulbs. They last around five hours, so it’s perfect for a little mood lighting in the evening.
I think it would be simple to recharge them either in a lantern cord like this (note that so far I have just swapped out the bulbs with an extra set so I’m going to have to confirm that this type of cord works to recharge. You can also put them in any lamp if you have them nearby.)
Yes, I know this might sound like a big deal, but it’s really not a big deal. For me, it’s worth it for the ambiance! We can wire them up at some point, but for now it’s working for us.
It’s a super easy way to instantly change the mood of a room! It is also a very nice option if you are renting. Plus, I think these bulbs would come in handy if you need a lamp in the middle of a room or on a counter and don’t want to thread an extension cord across the room or along a wall!
So many smart ways to use these bulbs to transform the ambiance of your home.
Likewise, I also like to use battery operated candles in sconces like this and this to add some sparkle to a space.
