Traditional, Collected Coastal Style: Get the Mood Board Look

Cozy and Inviting (Get the Look!) is a fun periodic “miniseries” on The Inspired Room!

To achieve that “cozy and inviting” vibe that many of us crave in our homes, in this series I share a variety of inspirational pieces that feel cozy and inviting to me (for a variety of reasons!). Then I quickly brainstorm a list of things I see that I think help create that vibe. We will also feature articles or tips for “getting the look” in your own home.

Today’s inspiration bedrooms are all from a beautiful home I found in New England Home Magazine. It’s a traditional look with a bit of a coastal vibe, it’s so cozy and collected! Enjoy the inspiration images below, then find some design observations and get the look sources below.

Here are some of my observations and notes on what sets me apart from this house. At the end of this article you will find a design mood board and other elements that I would consider including in the design if I was styling a similar space!

  • Rattan Decorative Pieces
  • Dining table and antique-looking bed
  • soothing paint colors
  • Fun green accents
  • Accessories and furniture in a collected look
  • Fun patterns used in window treatments, garden stools, wallpaper, artwork, pillows and furniture
  • Warm wood in every photo
  • Unique accent lighting
  • Twist Taper Candles
  • Natural rugs with subtle patterns
  • Books (I have a fun article full of rooms decorated with books here)
  • Interesting details on furniture and accessories like fringes, tassels, trims
  • Fun patterned shade (gingham, scalloped woven, pleated with pattern)
  • Chinese Landscape Paintings and Botanical Artwork
  • Decorate with collections (blue and white pottery, books, baskets, collard greens, books etc)
  • Welcoming seating areas (window seat, plenty of dining room seating, living room conversation space)
  • Live plants and flowers
