Will I Remodel My New Kitchen?

They, the kitchens are the heart of the house. They definitely have my heart! I can’t wait to dream of them again :)! I’m sure it won’t surprise anyone, but I’ve never had a kitchen that I left as it is. Well, unless we count our first kitchen in our condominium. We left it almost the same as it was, but we covered a burn mark on the white laminate countertops. Being honeymooners with no DIY skills or budget, we got a lot of fancy and used White Out (which I know dates from me – does anyone still know what White Out is? was one of my first creative cover-ups, which I had a pic to show you! Haha!). Laugh if you want, but it worked! You could hardly tell that the counter was burnt. For the record, we did not burn the meter. It was like that when we moved in! So we left it better than before, which is still my goal.

Many of my previous kitchens have received some pretty minor updates, like paint, wallpaper, or new buttons. Some needed new counters, sinks or floors. Others got brand new devices or even a whole new look! If you are in the area, you probably remember that we remodeled a few things in our new build home (pictured above). We took a builder’s kitchen and gave it a new personality!

And of course, we remodeled our last kitchen from top to bottom (featured in Better Homes & Gardens Small Space Decorating)! I loved all of our kitchens, but this one was so fun to design and a dream to work in.

Will I be remodeling my new kitchen?
Our new kitchen when we moved in

Many of you have asked me if we will be remodeling the kitchen in our new home. It’s a good question! I’ll be sharing many more photos of our current kitchen in future posts, but above I took one when we moved in. The house was furnished, so it already had some accessories. I promise to take some new photos to share now that we live here!

Fortunately, our new kitchen is lovely enough already and has been well maintained. We hadn’t planned to do anything in particular, it was SO nice not to have this emergency! Of course, I still love to make a house as we can, but much prefer to live in a house for a while to get a feel for the space before any changes are made. Now that we’re here, the ideas are definitely starting to flow!

We are so happy that the previous owners have added features to the house that have brought extra character, like built-in elements, box beams, wallpaper, blinds, etc. They really gave us a good head start on things we wanted to do. Plus, the rest of the house has some charm too, so we’re happy to start with a great base! In fact, I often talk to the previous owner and she’s delighted that we love the house so much, so it’s been fun sharing ideas with her (and her with me!).

Every day my husband and I stop by and say ‘can you believe we live here? We will never stop being grateful. It is such a special place! It’s in a beautiful vacation destination, it feels like a beach house we live in! We expect this to be our forever home and we will treat it like it is (we always do, but this time around it feels like it will definitely be in our family forever!).

It is important to us in our new home that we make it comfortable and welcoming to all of our family for years to come! We are empty nests, but I run my business from home and we invited my parents to live with us and our puppies! It’s definitely not empty! 🙂 We want this house to be a gathering place for all of our (growing!) Family. So there are many people and space planning considerations that we will take into account as we make decisions in the future.

While we want this to be a family gathering place, it’s not a huge house (it’s about 2,000 square feet and a very small lot). I love the size, the potential and even its limits! There is enough room for our needs, without too much excess. We will be creative and want every inch to count. This whole process is fine for me, I have always liked “not-so-big” houses (houses that are perfect for the people who live in them, not too gigantic) and of course, would love to add even more character and character. personality at home.

So with all that in mind, to answer the question about our kitchen projects, I’m back to dreaming about kitchens! It took me a few weeks to settle in but you know how I am, it doesn’t take long before I start dreaming. 🙂 I already have ideas in mind for the kitchen (and more) which I think will be perfect for this home! I can’t wait to share them.

It was really fun talking about cooking with my mom too! She loves imagining ideas as much as I do, and she and my dad have renovated many homes. I can’t wait to share the ideas we have with you, my house loving friends.

Stay tuned to The Inspired Room (and Instagram). I’ll share photos and more about our kitchen, adjoining dining room, and home improvement ideas and plans (interior and exterior)! I’ll also be sharing inspiration that you can categorize or use for your own home now or in the future!
